Radiant: Years of Ash
In development · Unreal Engine 5.8
A mythic world-history simulation expressed as a single-player role-playing game. Aetherion is a living continent, where political, cosmic and metaphysical forces continue to move whether or not anyone is watching them — and keep moving after the story ends.
For nearly two millennia a Radiant god-touched Empire ruled the continent. In their hubris, they forgot what they were: Servants of the gods; now, self-declared objects of worship. Their demanded idolatry turned to treachery and for hundreds of years, they ruled the land with an iron fist.
Fourteen nations under the Empire's own banner found each other — and found something that aided in their cause for freedom. Runes. Runes that sapped strength from the Radiant blood. Runes that helped even the battlefield. Runes they carved into the stone and wood and earth of their lands. Runes that brought down the Empire.
What came next was not strategy. Having seen what the runes could do, a terrified populace, of farmers and villagers and fishermen, who had never seen real magic and did not know they were writing any, carved them into almost everything they owned.
To them, the runes were fancy scribbles, not items of great power which needed careful manipulation to cast their potent spells. The magic these misworked runes produced, warped their very essence.
What poisons Aetherion is not the dynasty everyone feared — it is the fear itself, carved into the ground and left there.
Play the misplaced heir, play the antagonist, or play a third party watching history happen to other people.
